Pavlova A.N. THE SEMANTICS OF THE METAL COVERED PLATES FROM THE SHOCKSHIN BURIAL GROUNDThe ancient art semantics is the issue of this article. Taking metal covered plate which was widely spread within the Finno-Ugric tribes of the Volga region, author studies the meaning of a thing in the context of the traditional culture. Trappings were not only of the esthetic character, they protected the owner, showed his social status, embodied the cosmological notions. All these things influenced the form, the way of ornament and the place in the semantic system of the costume.
