Interaction of typical, modern and Russian theories of regional development is presented in this article and also the peculiarities of conceptual apparatus are revealed. The necessity of competitiveness studying as a general "product" of an activity of a region as a subject of development is distinguished. The problems of region development at modern conditions are determined.
