The article reviews most representative views on dichotomy "language and mind". Research into this problem in terms of cognitive aspect enables to conclude that when forming dialectic unity, language and mind are not identity; they intersect but do not coincide. The paper outlines main approaches to determination of central idea of cognitive linguistics "concept".

The article studies invariance as an important part in postulating the semantic community of the polysemantic word meaning. The author gives the criteria to identify "Lexical prototype". The practical part contains an English polysemantic word interpretation from the cognitive linguistics point of view.
