The legal regulation of the status of the expert is considered in the article. The object of research is the pricessual figure of the expert in criminal legal proceedings. The definition and the contents of terms "expert", "research" and " the conclusion of the expert " are submitted in the work. Besides the questions of participation of the expert in investigatory actions are covered and variants of the decision of actual problems in this area are offered.
